Quick start

Welcome to RowCodes

Your fields, watered from your phone. Setup takes about 15 minutes — no computer, no settings, no tech knowledge needed.
In your box
  • 1× field hub (the box that goes on a pole near your pump)
  • Your wireless valves (one small solar box per valve)
  • A Setup Card with our contact details (each device's claim card is in its box — scan that card; nothing is stuck on the device)
  • Mounting hardware

Missing something? Don't start — call us first.

Step 1

Open your invite

Your login is set up for you. Look for an email titled “You have been invited” (sent by your installer or by us), tap Accept the invite and choose a password. After that, sign in at rowcodes.com. No email? Check your spam folder, then call the number on your Setup Card.

Step 2

Put the field hub up high

Mount the field hub on the supplied pole near your pump house — as high as you safely can, antenna pointing straight up. The higher it sits, the farther it reaches your valves.

Plug the field hub into power. It runs on its own cellular. The controller plugs into the power injector's LAN port, or into the farm's router with the injector's LAN port empty. Never plug the hub or the injector into the farm's router. A light turns solid green when it's connected — usually under a minute.

Step 3

Add the hub in the app

In the app, tap + Add equipment. Give your field a name, then add the hub: scan the QR on the claim card that came in the box, or type the Hub ID printed on that card. That's it — the hub links to your account automatically.

Step 4

Put a valve at each station

At each valve, push the stake into the ground and connect the valve's two wires to the box: red to red, black to black. The wires are not interchangeable. Swapped, the valve opens when it should close. If the wires aren't red and black, or you're not sure, stop and call your installer. Your installer checks the wiring before the first watering. Point the antenna up. Set the little solar panel where it gets sun.

The valve ships switched off to save its battery. Your installer switches it on with the ToolBox app on a phone. Once it's on, it joins within a few minutes and shows up in your app.

Step 5

Add each valve in the app

Still in + Add equipment, tap Scan QR and point your phone at the claim card that came in the valve's box — or type the Device ID and the claim code printed on that card. If the camera won't open, tap Read ID from photo and snap a picture of the card instead. Pick which part of the field it waters. Repeat for each valve. Done.

Step 6

Water from your phone

Tap Open on a valve, pick how long it should run, and confirm. It shuts itself off at the time shown. Or set a schedule so it waters on its own. A schedule is skipped for rain only if you tick Rain skip on it; that box is off until you do. Rain skip uses weather from the last 12 hours only: older or missing weather never skips a run. Every skip or hold shows why on the schedule. If anything ever needs your attention, you'll see an alert in the app and get an email.

Soil start is a separate box, also off until you tick it. It is only for a single-zone schedule, it needs a soil sensor, and it never checks rain. It waters for the schedule's own run time, pump included. An old or missing soil reading never starts or skips a run. If a run it started opened its valve, ran its full time, and the sensor didn't get 2 points wetter within 3 hours, soil start pauses on that schedule and says so until someone on the farm (an operator, admin or the owner) taps Turn soil start back on.

With a pump and a wireless valve, a schedule's clock start or soil start turns the pump on only after the valve reports open. A valve wired to the pump's own controller opens first, then its pump starts. In a sequence with a pump, the next zone opens before the last one closes (usually under a minute; up to about 5 minutes if the next valve's start gets no answer, then the sequence ends). If a zone's valve doesn't confirm it opened, the sequence ends there: the pump stops first (unless another zone it feeds is still watering), then the zones close. Closing the last open valve stops its pump, unless a pump-only schedule is running it.

Emergency stop

Owners and operators press Emergency stop. A viewer sees 'Call the farm' and 'Send urgent stop request' (an urgent alert in RowCodes; it does not ring phones and sends nothing to the equipment). Every press closes every valve, stops every pump and injector on that farm, and alerts its owners and operators. While stopped, nothing starts — schedules show 'Held by the emergency stop'. Re-arm lifts it and tells the controller it's clear; if the controller was offline, it hears the all-clear when it reconnects (within 30 minutes), otherwise its next start from RowCodes clears it.

Everyday tips
  • Leave everything powered on. If a valve says Out of contact, it's almost always a low battery or the antenna got knocked sideways — stand it back up.
  • Keep the hub's antenna vertical. A leaning antenna is the #1 reason a valve stops responding after a storm.
  • To add more fields or valves later, just tap + Add equipment again.
