Irrigation Water Management for Agriculture

Irrigation water management here means the records around the water you already apply: by well, by field, by zone, and by water year. It is the same data that ran the irrigation, kept so you can answer a question later.

What the records hold

You enter an allocation for each field and water year. Alerts fire at 75, 90, and 100 percent of that allocation. There is no per-well allocation and no custom percent. Metered water is totaled as metered. You can log a district delivery beside applied water.

A monthly extraction file includes metered and estimated water, with estimated water in a separate “Estimated (acre-ft)” column. Whether your groundwater agency or district will accept that file is their rule, not ours. Requirements vary. SGMA water monitoring explains that limit in plain language.

Management is not the same as live monitoring

Live readings tell you a set is in trouble this afternoon. Water monitoring is that job. Management is the season: what the well pumped, which field it served, and how that compares with the allocation or the district order.

Metered water is totaled as metered. A run with no meter but an entered flow rate is counted and labeled estimated, never shown as metered. Water with neither is “not measured,” left out of the totals, and never shown as zero.

Who uses the records

The grower and the bookkeeper need the water year. The irrigator needs the field and the zone. Read-only access exists so someone can see the numbers without being able to open a valve.
